my best

There's something to be said for the comfort of home. Of what you know to be the easiest place to be. The place where your heart settles into a happy beat and your belly gets all warm and fuzzy just knowing you can close your eyes and know that you are truly and most remarkably content.

Part of my home doesn't reside in Fort Lauderdale, I am originally from Delaware. It is the chicken soup on a cold day. It is that amazing fuzzy blanket you wrap around your shoulders while sitting by the fire. It is my happy place.

Delaware. I know. To those that have never been, you can't understand the appeal. But for me, it is the perfect mixture of beach towns and urbanization. Contemporary versus traditional. It is home. It's comfortable.

Part of that home feeling are the amazing people tied to it. My mom. My sister. My family. My best friends.

Karen and I met in 3rd grade. For you math geniuses, that's 24 years of best friendship. 24 years of drama. And 24 years of more shit on each other than we could possibly contain in one heart. But I cannot imagine my life without her. She has helped me pick up the pieces more times that I can count. But she has also been there to celebrate life's blessings more than I could have ever dreamed.

Karen moved to northern Florida the same year I did to South Florida. Following her wedding, she and her Husband Will eventually welcomed their first born, Patrick, followed by Lindsay the next year.  She was the maid of honor in my wedding, held on her birthday, and helped celebrate Smith's arrival two years after that. She's been there for everything. Everything.

Although life stays busy, our friendship remains constant. Picking up just where we left off even if a year has passed.

She and her family treated us to the circus this weekend and treated my belly to that all familiar warm fuzzy feeling just by having her here. The circus was amazing. The memories were incredible. But my favorite part is watching our children become friends. Just as we did just 4 years shy of her son's age. Full circle.  It's a beautiful thing to witness.

Toasted after too much sugar and not enough beer to handle the tantrums

Mister Patrick

The GREATEST show is right.

Smith and Lindsay. I think it's safe to say he has a thing for blondes.

Thank you Karen for always being my best. Love you.

You are the only person I've ever meet or even know from Delaware. Random, pointless comment.
